Kathmandu, July 15: The Election Commission has recognised the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal as a political party. Six different Tarai-Madhes-centric political parties had merged to form the RJPN.
A meeting of the Election Commission chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Ayodhee Prasad Yadav on Saturday took a decision to this effect.
Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal said that a meeting of the commission gave recognition to the ' Rastriya Janata Party Nepal' as a political party, acting on an application registered by the RJPN seeking its recognition as a political party.
Dahal however said that no decision has been taken to assign an election symbol to the RJPN.
Similarly, the meeting has registered five political parties. The newly-registered parties are the Sajha Party led by journalist Rabindra Mishra, the Sanghiya Khumbuwan Loktantrik Party Nepal, the Nepali Shanti Kshetra Parishad, the Dalit-Muslim Janashakti Party and the Nepali Congress (BP). (RSS)
