Bidur, Nuwakot, Dec. 19: The local people on Wednesday clashed with the police at Mailung bordering Nuwakot and Rasuwa, injuring two including a head constable. The police had to fire seven rounds of warning shots in the air to control the situation that occurred after the locals went on a vandalism and attack spree accusing the police of failure to negotiate a burglary, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhimlal Bhattarai. Earlier, the police arrested three men while stealing construction materials belonging to a hydropower project at Kispang Rural Municipality-5. But another man fled the scene and jumped into the Trishuli River in an attempt to escape the arrest.
Following that incident, the Mailung area remained tense as the irate locals started vandalism accusing the police of making the man jump into the river. In the vandalism, the locals damaged Mailung police beat. Talks are on between the locals and the police, said Bhattarai. RSS
