ICC World Twenty20 Asia Qualifier- Nepal enjoys second straight victory


Kathmandu, Oct. 6: Nepal clinched its second straight victory in the ICC World Twenty20 Asia qualifier. In the second match of group 'B' held today at Bayuemas Oval Stadium in Malaysia, Nepal defeated the host Malaysia by eight wickets.
Nepal met the target of 101 runs posted by Malaysia in 12.4 overs at the loss of two wickets. Nepali squad captain Parash Khadka contributed unbroken 52 runs to his team while vice-caption Gyanendra Malla scored 27 and opener Binod Bhandari made 12 runs.
The host choosing to bat first by winning the toss finished the batting by garnering 100 runs in 19.3 balls at the loss of all wickets.
Nepali team's Sandeep Lamichanne alone took five minutes in his attempt of limiting the competitor to 100 runs while Sompal Kami succeeded in dismissing three batsmen and captain Khadka took one wicket.
In the previous match held on October 3, Nepal defeated Myanmar by eight wickets and it is meeting Thailand Sunday for the third match, then Bhutan, China and Singapore, respectively.
The tournament based on round robin, the top three teams (from east sub-region) will enter second round of qualifier to play with the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, the teams selected from the western sub-region. From the competition among the six teams, two teams will be selected for the final round of qualification match. RSS
