Nepal concedes 70-run defeat to host Thailand in Women's T20

Kathmandu, Jan. 19: Nepal conceded a 70-run defeat to host Thailand in the final match of Women's T20 Smash, 2019. Nepal, which earlier had thrashed Thailand by nine wickets in the group match, began with poor performance, reducing to only 51 runs in 17.2-overs at the loss of all wickets.
Nepal needed 122 runs to defeat Thailand, which would not seem much difficult given the former’s effective performance against the host in an earlier match. But, weak partnership between the openers did not create base for Nepal to win the match.
Kajal Shrestha was run-out for one in the first over. Her partner Indu Barma was also dismissed with LBW for a golden duck. Other preceding players also could not remain at the crease for long, thus failing to compensate the loss. Except Sita Ranamagar (13) and Neri Thapa (17), other players could not make double digit scores. Roma Thapa hit two, while Sarita Magar five, Captain Rubina Chhetri five and Karuna Bhandari four. Kabita Kunwar was packed for a duck.
Invited into bat first after losing the toss, Thailand started it in style from the very beginning. For Thailand, Nattaya Boochatham smashed the highest 69. Likewise, Naruemol Chaiwai contributed 27, and Chanida Sutthiruang 19, to bring the team to spectacular victory. RSS
