Rajbiraj, Nov. 1: Stakeholders here have announced to declare Saptari an Open Defecation Free (ODF) district by the end of 2017.
At a programme organised by the Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Committee, Saptari here on Tuesday, they pledged to make Saptari the first ODF district of province no. 2.
Those expressing the commitment to realize it were mayors and deputy mayors of all the rural municipalities and municipality, and representatives of civil society organisations working in the field in the district.
Of the erstwhile 91 VDCs and five municipalities, 53 VDCs and one municipality in the district have already been declared ODF. Of the total 118,917 households in the district, 105,010 households have already constructed a toilet in their homes, according to Prameswar Jha of Sabal, an NGO working in the district.
On the occasion, Chief District Officer of Saptari, Bhagirath Pandey said active support and coordination of all sides were necessary to make Saptari an ODF district within the next two months. RSS
