NC candidates elected in Gorkha's nine local units, Maoist Centre in two


Gorkha, May 19: The vote count has completed in all the eleven local units in Gorkha district with Nepali Congress emerging victorious in two municipalities and seven rural municipalities.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) has won in the two other rural municipalities. The CPN (UML) and Naya Shakti Party have been left scratching their heads.

NC candidate Rajan Raj Pant has been elected in the mayor's post in Gorkha Municipality with 6,560 votes. His closest rival from CPN (Maoist Centre) Krishna Bahadur Rana received 5,060 votes.

NC's Bina Kumari Shrestha has been elected in deputy mayor's post with 6,260 votes. Her closest contender from CPN (UML), Samjana Devkota, garnered 4,705 votes, according to Chief Election Official's Office.

In Gorkha's Palungtar Municipality, NC's Deepak Babu Kandel has won the mayor's post with 4,698 votes under his belt. His closest rival Bibash Chintan from Maoist Centre received 4,491 votes.

In deputy mayor's post Maoist Centre's Pampha Basel has been elected with 4, 494 votes while her closest rival Chet Kumari Shrestha from Congress has garnered 4,196 votes.

Nepali Congress candidates have been elected in Bhimsen Rural Municipality, Arughat Rural Municipality, Chumannubri Rural Municipality, Dharchowk Rural Municipality, Ajirkot Rural Municipality, Siran Chowk Rural Municipality and Gandaki Rural Municipality.

Meanwhile, CPN (Maoist Centre) candidates have been elected in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality and Sulikot Rural Municipality. The parties took out victory rallies in all 11 local units in the district after the announcement of the local poll results. (RSS)
