'NC wants reconciliation'

Kathmandu, Dec. 31: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government has not wished reconciliation despite his party's readiness for reconciliation.
At a programme organised by Kathmandu Chapter of Nepali Congress on the occasion of 43rd National Unity and Reconciliation Day on Monday, Deuba blamed the government for trying to interfere all bodies of the state.
He said, "Interference on bureaucracy is taking place through civil servant adjustment ordinance. So, civil servants have launched agitation." He also argued that the government has a plan to move ahead to bring all state bodies under the control of the government unilaterally.
The former Prime Minister further said that people would be compelled to launch agitations if there is interference on all bodies of the state.
Saying that the NC is always in favour of an independent judiciary and impartial bureaucracy, security bodies, President Deuba clarified that the NC does not want unnecessary clash in the name of opposition.
He said, "The reconciliation policy started by BP Koirala is always in favour of democracy and the reconciliation policy was significant not only in the past. Its relevance remains at present and future too as per the situation."
Similarly, Central Committee Member of the NC Narahari Acharya expressed the view that unity and reconciliation was necessary among all political parties and seven provinces in the country.
On the occasion, leader Gagan Kumar Thapa said that it was the responsibility of the NC to safeguard the achievements of the constitution by implementing it.
Likewise, Central Committee Member Dhyan Govinda Ranjit, and former Speaker Taranath Ranabhat expressed the belief that the reconciliation day would inspire all to achieve prosperity after making institutional development of the democracy.
NC, Kathmandu, President Sabuj Baniya, Provincial Assembly Member Chhiring Dorje Lama, among others expressed their views about the relevance of national unity and reconciliation day.
The NC has been marking 16th Poush as the National Reconciliation Day in memory of 16 Poush 2033BS, the day leaders BP Koirala, Ganesh Man Singh and others returned Nepal from exile for the cause of democracy. RSS
