KATHMANDU, May 7: Min Bahadur Sherchan, the 86 year old mountaineer of Nepal, has died at the Everest Base Camp on Saturday evening.
According to Tourism Ministry at the Everest Base Camp, octogenarian Sherchan died at 5:14 pm saturday.
Sherchan, who hails from Tatopani in Myagdi, left Kathmadu on April 16 to scale the highest summit to become the world’s oldest mountaineer. The 'Min Bahadur Everest Expedition' campaign had organized the expedition.
Born in june 1931 in Myagdi district, Sherchan had stood atop the Mt Everest in 2008 at the age of 76 years and recorded his name in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2010. Five years later, his record was broken by an 80-year-old Japanese national, Yuichiro Miura.
Sherchan was in a bid to break the Japanese national's record and reclaim his title.
