FNJ general convention preparation complete


Kathmandu, Aug. 12: Preparations for the general convention of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) – the umbrella organization of working journalists – are complete.
FNJ general secretary Ujir Magar shared that the preparations for FNJ general convention scheduled to take place in the capital on August 20-21 are over.
'Foundation of Professional Journalism; Press Freedom and Labour Rights' has been set the main slogan of the conclave.
The general convention will elect a 45-member new working committee including a chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, general secretary, six secretaries and a treasurer.
The general convention will restructure the FNJ in line with the federal structure of the country. New leadership will be established in 10 structures including in the seven provinces, valley, institution and associate.
General Secretary Magar informed that there is the provision of two central members each from the structures in the FNJ leadership.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to inaugurate the general convention to be held at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu.
Magar shared nine different sub-committees have completed their assigned preparatory responsibilities.
Around 1,500 delegates are taking part in the general convention. More than 300 hotels located in the areas of Sundhara, Bagabazaar and Sorhakhutte have been booked for the purpose.
FNJ is an umbrella organization of around 10,000 journalists across the country. RSS
