IT prerequisite to prosperous Nepal: PM Oli

Kathmandu, May 2: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said use of information technology (IT) is prerequisite to the development and prosperity of Nepal. PM Oli further said foundation was being prepared for the digital Nepal. He was saying this during a programme the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology organized today to mark the 2nd National ICT Day in the capital city today. "Government is for continuation of social networking site with awareness on its negative effects too," he said, adding, "Nepal has entered the digital age. We're augmenting citizen's access to internet." The PM shared the information that information highway was being created with expansion of optical fibres. The IT must be utilized for the benefit of the country and people. According to him, Bheri Babai diversion project used technology to complete the tunnel construction. On the occasion, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Banskota, said all stakeholders including people, private sector and government would make a stride with the utmost use of IT sector. Member of the National Planning Commission, Min Bahadur Shahi informed that the strategy of digital Nepal included in the 15th periodic plan would be fully implemented. Ministry Secretary Mahendra Man Gurung said the campaign of digital Nepal would be effective tool to realize the goal of high economic growth and good governance. Chairman of CAN Federation, Hemanta Chaurasiya, viewed that computer association was ready to cooperate with government to build digital Nepal for country's prosperity.
