Call to make Gauriphanta checkpoint of international standard


Kathmandu, Aug. 12: Efforts have been initiated to upgrade Dhangadhi-based Gauriphanta – the main checkpoint connecting Province-7 to India – to meet the international standards.
A joint delegation comprising local people's representatives and entrepreneurs of Province-7 took the initiative for the same by calling on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter's residence at Baluwatar today.
Submitting a memorandum to the Prime Minister, the delegation also demanded incorporating the agenda during the PM Deuba's upcoming India visit. The delegates also demanded to emphatically put the agenda during bilateral dialogue on the occasion.
Prime Minister Deuba is embarking on India visit from August 23.
Prime Minister Deuba took it positive to upgrade the checkpoint to meet the international standard, shared Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairperson Shanker Bogati at a press conference organized after the meet.
During the meet, PM instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give prime importance to the affair in the agenda of India visit, Bogati shared.
On the occasion, newly-elected Mayor of Dhangadi sub-metropolis Nrip Wod stressed the need of upgrading Gauriphant checkpoint for propelling the economic prosperity of the far-western region. RSS
