2004-14 was a lost decade, current one will be known as India’s decade, says Indian PM

02/08/2023

New Delhi, Feb. 8: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, targeted the Opposition Congress saying the period of “2004-2014 was a decade of scams and violence” and that the “UPA’s trademark was to let every opportunity turn into crisis from 2004-2014.”

Modi also said, "2004-14 was a lost decade, the current one will be known as India’s decade.”

The Prime Minister noted that there was hope in every sector in the country, but “some people are steeped in frustration due to the people’s mandate against them.”

He said India has a stable and decisive government and that reforms have been brought in out of conviction and not compulsion. He went on to say that “people’s trust in Modi is not because of newspaper headlines or TV visuals but because “of my years of dedication.”

Both the ruling party MPs and the Opposition MPs chanted slogans througout the speech. "Modi, Modi, Modi," shouted the Treasury Benches amid loud thumping of desks, while  Opposition MPs shouted, 'Adani, Adani, Adani..."

Modi began his address by emphasizing how Indian President Droupadi Murmu has “shown us the way” and that “she is an inspiration for all.”-Agencies
