Kathmandu, Mar. 19: The newly constructed school building of Shree Janakalyan Secondary School in Makawanpur, built with financial assistance from the Government of India under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation, was inaugurated today.

The project, completed at a cost of Rs. 30 million, was jointly inaugurated by Lalit Bahadur Ghalan, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Makawanpur, and Basist Nandan, First Secretary at the Embassy of India, Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, social workers, teachers, students, and parents.

The school infrastructure was developed as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), implemented through the District Coordination Committee, Makawanpur, with the Indian government's grant covering the construction and allied facilities. Established in 1968 as a primary school, Shree Janakalyan Secondary School was upgraded to a higher secondary level in 1985 and currently serves around 850 students, 54% of whom are girls, according to the press release issued by Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

Speaking at the event, local representatives and school officials expressed their appreciation for India's developmental support, emphasizing that the new infrastructure would significantly enhance the learning environment in the school and contribute to the overall improvement of education in the region, it added.

As close neighbours, India and Nepal are engaged in wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal in growth and development of its people by augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors, the release further stated.
