New Delhi, Sept. 11: Nepal has officially joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as its 101st full member. The announcement was made after Nepal handed over its Instrument of Ratification to the ISA in New Delhi on Monday. The exchange took place during a meeting between Nepal’s Charge d’Affaires, Dr. Surendra Thapa, and Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary (ED&MER) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

The International Solar Alliance is a global intergovernmental organization focused on promoting solar energy adoption as a means to combat climate change and achieve a carbon-neutral future. Launched in 2015 through a joint initiative by India and France during COP21 in Paris, the ISA aims to unite countries in the shared goal of implementing solar energy solutions.

Since a 2020 amendment to its Framework Agreement, the ISA has opened its membership to all UN member states, broadening its global reach. The organization’s work includes spreading awareness, aiding in the creation of solar-friendly policies, developing new business models for solar projects, and enhancing financial access to attract private investments in solar energy.

Nepal’s membership in the ISA marks a significant step in its commitment to advancing renewable energy and contributing to global efforts against climate change.
