Washington, Sept. 27: India rejected Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claims at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was followed after the Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22 that killed 26 civilians, accusing him of ‘glorifying terrorism’ on a global stage.
Exercising its Right of Reply, Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said, “This Assembly witnessed absurd theatrics in the morning from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who once again glorified terrorism that is so central to their foreign policy.”
She further added that Pakistan has continued to shelter groups like The Resistance Front (TRF), which carried out the Pahalgam attack, and had earlier given shelter to Al-Qaeda and the chief Osama bin Laden.
PM Sharif had alleged that Pakistan faced unprovoked aggression from India during Operation Sindoor, describing his country’s military response as a victory. India, however, said the operation specifically targeted terrorist camps and infrastructure in Pakistan without harming civilians.
Mocking PM Sharif’s claim of victory, Gahlot said, “If ruined runways and damaged hangars are considered a win, then Pakistan is welcome to it.” She further added that Pakistan’s military itself had pleaded for a ceasefire on May 10.
PM Sharif also claimed that Pakistan had shot down seven Indian fighter jets. However, India’s Air Force discredited the claim, asserting that it had instead destroyed five fighter jets from Pakistan along with a large Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh confirmed these details last month.-Agencies
