FNJ submits memorandum protesting journalist Rajak’s death

03/31/2025

Kathmandu, Mar. 31: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) submitted a memorandum to the government from across the country on Monday, protesting the death of journalist Suresh Rajak and orchestrated attacks on the media.

The FNJ demanded action against those responsible for Rajak’s murder and immediate relief for his family. During a meeting in Kathmandu, the central committee of FNJ handed over a memorandum to Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, expressing concern over the planned attacks during a pro-monarchy demonstration last Friday.

Provincial committees submitted memorandums to provincial home ministers, while district branches handed them over to Chief District Officers, calling for assurance of press freedom.

Acting FNJ President Deepak Acharya, Vice President Umid Bagchand, and General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal visited the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday morning to submit the memorandum to Minister Lekhak.

The FNJ alleged that Rajak was deliberately killed by demonstrators through arson and demanded a thorough investigation, punishment for the perpetrators, and relief for the victim’s family. The federation also urged attention to the treatment of injured journalists.

The FNJ has been organizing various protest programs since Saturday, demanding justice. Journalists across the country wore black armbands while working on Monday and carried out street protests on Saturday.
