Kathmandu, June 7: The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on Friday, hosted a Yoga session on the premises of the Pashupatinath Temple, serving as a curtain-raiser to the International Day of Yoga 2024.
In addition, a Yoga event took place at Maiti Nepal, an organization dedicated to combating human trafficking, according to the embassy.
The Indian Embassy in Nepal in a post on X, “@IndiaInNepal organised a Yoga demonstration at the premises of the revered Pashupatinath Temple India-Nepal today to create greater awareness about Yoga and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the upcoming International Day of Yoga.”
“In keeping with this year’s theme of “yoga for women empowerment”, @IndiaInNepal also organised a lecture-cum-demonstration on the health benefits of Yoga for girls and women of @MaitiNepal”, the embassy added.
Yoga, a practice with deep roots in India, units physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions. The term ‘yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit and signifies the fusion of body and consciousness, symbolising unity.
In recognition of its global resonance, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014. The draft resolution that led to the establishment of the International Day of Yoga was put forward by India and endorsed by a record 175 member states.
