Kathmandu, May 3: The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav on Thursday.
During the meeting held at the Vice President’s office in Lanchaur, Vice President Yadav expressed satisfaction with the longstanding, amicable relationship between Nepal and the EU since 1974, emphasizing Nepal’s significant regard for its partnership with the EU.
He noted the milestone of celebrating the golden anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two entities this year and extended best wishes.
Vice-President Yadav highlighted the EU’s pivotal role as Nepal’s main development partner, acknowledging the importance of EU-supported programs in various sectors such as health, education, drinking water, sanitation, and rural development.
Yadav underscored the significant impact of EU-supported projects in Karnali province, benefiting the inhabitants of remote areas.
He emphasized the shared values of democracy, freedom, and multilateralism between Nepal and the EU, stressing the necessity of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges such as epidemics and climate change.
The Vice-President expressed gratitude for the international community’s goodwill and support during Nepal’s political transformation, expressing confidence in the EU’s continued support in fulfilling Nepal’s economic aspirations while maintaining its historical political achievements.
He expressed hope for the strengthening and deepening of the Nepal-EU relationship during Ambassador Lorenzo’s tenure, anticipating a positive impact on development cooperation.
In response, EU Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo commended Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and expressed the EU’s interest in collaborating on social inclusion and education initiatives.
She highlighted the EU’s focus on supporting various sectors, including agriculture, through investment and economic growth.
Ambassador Lorenzo said the EU had targeted support for Far West, Karnali, and Madhesh provinces, aiming to uplift these regions.
