Colombo, June 26: Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe reiterated that there is no military agreement with China and he will not allow the island nation to be used as a base for any threats against India. President Wickremesinghe said in an interview with the French media, “We are a neutral country, but we also stress on the fact that we will not allow Sri Lanka to be used as a base for any threats against India.” Can.” When Wickremesinghe was asked about China’s presence in Sri Lanka, especially military presence, he replied, “We have no military agreement with China; There will be no military agreement and I don’t think China will be involved.”
The President said that the Chinese have been there for almost 1,500 years and till now there is no military base there. Regarding the Hambantota port, he admitted that it “has been given to Chinese traders, but its security is controlled by the Sri Lankan government”. “The Southern Naval Command will be shifted to Hambantota,” he assured. “There is certainly no issue of military use of the port by the Chinese. The same company also operates a terminal at the Port of Colombo, South Port.
