India hands over 3rd tranche of election-related assistance to Nepal; including over 220 pickups, 50 trucks for the Nepali Army

Kathmandu, Feb. 12: The third tranche of election-related assistance from the Government of India to Nepal was ceremonially handed over by Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava to the Minister for Home Affairs of Nepal, Om Prakash Aryal, at an event held at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The third tranche of assistance gifted to the Government of Nepal includes more than 270 vehicles, including 50 trucks for the Nepali Army, and other supplies, in accordance with the assistance sought by Nepal for preparations related to the upcoming elections in the country. The trucks for the Nepali Army were received by the Chief of Army Staff, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, from Ambassador Naveen Srivastava.

⁠In his remarks, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal thanked the Indian side for the timely and significant nature of assistance provided to Nepal. He also conveyed his appreciation for the mutually beneficial and comprehensive nature of cooperation between the two countries, which is marked by mutual trust, friendship, and a shared adherence to democratic values.

The first two tranches of such election-related assistance, comprising over 310 vehicles and other supplies from the Government of India, have already been handed over to Nepal on 20 January and 29 January 2026, respectively. Some additional deliveries are expected to take place in batches in the coming days.

The ongoing cooperation and support from the Indian side reflects the multi-faceted and multi-sectoral development partnership that exists between both countries. It also symbolizes the deep mutual trust and friendship between the people of India and Nepal.

With this, the national coronavirus tally has reached 818,035.  According to the Ministry, 363 persons tested positive for the coronavirus at various labs across the country in the past 24 hours.
