Minister of Communication and Information Technology Sharma calls for effective telecommunication services

Kathmandu, Mar. 4: Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, emphasized the need for high-quality, reliable, and accessible telecommunication services.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu to mark the Nepal Telecommunication Authority's Silver Jubilee, Minister Sharma stressed the importance of developing and expanding telecommunication services by implementing reforms at the policy, legal, and structural level. She highlighted the need for effective regulation in the telecommunication sector and called for a detailed study to ensure the availability of telecommunication services in rural areas.

Minister Sharma also emphasized the importance of reviewing the results of the rural telecommunication development projects undertaken by the authority, and promptly taking action to address any gaps in physical progress and sustainability. She underscored the need for advancing the speed of economic and social transformation by studying and researching the latest technologies in information technology and telecommunications, and making policy and legal arrangements to facilitate customer access.

Minister Sharma stated that the government has prioritized the necessary policy and legal actions to maintain cyber security, privacy security, and data security. She also highlighted the importance of sharing telecommunication infrastructure to minimize double investment, expand infrastructure quickly and efficiently, and make services accessible to everyone. Additionally, she stressed the importance of disaster resilience in the telecommunication sector and called for the development of underground cable systems with certain standards and stakeholder participation.

Minister Sharma expressed her vision of building a completely information and technology-friendly society to support the quality of life of Nepali people, embody the concept of digital Nepal, and foster economic, social, and overall transformation for a better Nepal. She urged regulatory bodies and service providers to take the service users seriously and remove cluttered wires in the main city.
