Nepal and India Conclude Home Secretary-Level Talks, Agree to Strengthen Border and Security Cooperation

New Delhi, July 24: Nepal and India held a home secretary-level meeting in Delhi on Wednesday, reviewing bilateral security cooperation and border management. Both sides agreed to enhance and make the collaboration more effective, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs.

The talks covered key issues including the maintenance and protection of border pillars, controlling cross-border criminal activities, the performance of border district coordination committees, integrated check posts, and the strengthening of border infrastructure such as roads and rail networks. Discussions also focused on capacity building for security agencies and disaster risk reduction and management.

Both parties noted that the draft of the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement in criminal matters is in its final stages, and they agreed to expedite the revised extradition treaty.

This was the first bilateral meeting in nine years at this level. The next home secretary-level talks will be held in Nepal on a mutually agreed date.

The Indian delegation was led by India’s Home Secretary Govind Mohan, while Nepal’s delegation was headed by Nepal’s Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi.
