Kathmandu, Dec. 26: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged all concerned to make a collective effort to create favourable conditions for the transmission of knowledge, skills and experience possessed by senior citizens.
Extending best wishes on the occasion of 1st National Senior Citizens Day, President Bhandari wished all Nepali senior citizens good health, longevity and a dignified life.
Stating that senior citizens are repositories of experiences and wisdom, she said the day is expected to inspire all to facilitate proper protection and respectful and dignified life for senior citizens.
“I urge all to take concrete initiatives for the respectful treatment of senior citizens and their comfortable living through the effective implementation of existing legal provisions and policy,” the President said.
The government has decided to mark National Senior Citizens Day on Poush 11, from this year, commemorating the day when the government first announced to provide social security allowance to senior citizens.
The day is being celebrated with the slogan ‘Identity of Civilized Citizens: Respect for Senior Citizens’.
The government and non-government organisations are organising various programmes advocating for the protection and promotion of the rights, interests and entitlements of senior citizens.
