New Delhi, Oct. 17: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, who is on a three-day visit to India, met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and discussed a wide range of issues, including education, technology, women’s empowerment, innovation, development cooperation, and the welfare of fishermen, PTI reported.
After the meeting at his official residence, Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X: “Glad to welcome Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ms. Harini Amarasuriya. Our discussions covered a broad range of areas, including education, women’s empowerment, innovation, development cooperation and welfare of our fishermen. As close neighbours, our cooperation holds immense importance for the prosperity of our two peoples as well as the shared region.”

PM Modi also said he looked forward to continued engagement with Sri Lanka and conveyed his greetings to President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, recalling his own state visit to Colombo earlier this year, PTI reported.
During her visit, Amarasuriya toured the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where she interacted with researchers and faculty members. According to officials, the visit focused on India–Sri Lanka collaboration in higher education and innovation.
She later visited the Sarvodaya Co-Ed Vidyalaya in Rohini, accompanied by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, to learn about the capital’s public school model. The visit highlighted modern infrastructure, digital classrooms, and new teaching methods introduced under Delhi’s education reforms.
Both sides discussed possible areas of cooperation such as teacher training, vocational education, and sustainability in schools. A proposed “Delhi–Colombo Education Bridge” aims to promote exchange programmes for students and teachers, and partnerships in sustainable school design and innovation.-Agencies
