Kathmandu, Jan. 7: The newly constructed building of Shree Bhimgithe Secondary School in Baglung, built with financial assistance from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative, was formally handed over today.

The handover ceremony was conducted jointly by Amar Bahadur Thapa, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Baglung; Gandaki Thapa Adhikari, Chairperson of Badigad Rural Municipality; and Avinash Kumar Singh, Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, and social workers.

Funded through India’s High-Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) initiative, the grant was used for constructing the school building and related facilities. The project was implemented by the District Coordination Committee, Baglung.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of the District Coordination Committee, the Chairperson of Badigad Rural Municipality, and the School Management Committee expressed their gratitude to the Indian government for its continuous developmental support. They emphasized that the new infrastructure would significantly enhance the educational environment for the school’s 700 students, 54% of whom are girls.

Established in 1958 as a primary school, Shree Bhimgithe Secondary School was upgraded to a lower secondary school in 1968 and a secondary school in 1988. The school currently offers education from grades 1 to 12, serving as a crucial institution for the region.

The project reflects the robust partnership between India and Nepal, showcasing their collaboration across multiple sectors. The implementation of HICDPs highlights India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s infrastructure development in priority areas, contributing to the upliftment of its people and fostering closer bilateral ties.
