Washington, Jan. 27: One of the worst fire disasters in Pacific Palisades history, the charred hills continue to smolder as much needed rains approach the California hills in Los Angeles and investigators try to decipher the reason behind the fire that killed 7 people and destroyed over 6,800 structures.
The investigators have covered a terrain of up to 10 miles every day and corroborated around 235 clues related to the fire, with attention turning towards another which took place in the region a few days prior to the January 7 disaster.
An exclusive neighborhood in Palisades known as Hilands which overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is perched in mountains has been pin pointed by the investigators. The Los Angeles Fire Department said that this region is near the first fire which took place on January 1.
In the January 1 fire, no homes or structures were damaged or destroyed however the investigators are searching for a possible connection with the catastrophic January 7 fire.
They are also investigating the possible human connections to the fire like arson, fireworks or unauthorized camping activity.
According to the latest figures, the fire has engulfed around 24,000 acres while the flare ups still continue to spark, 20 days after the disaster. Though, as of Sunday, 84% of the fire has been contained, NBC News reported.
“To figure out the cause and origin of a wildfire, a method is used that is similar to solving a mystery,” Amy Masi, a fire investigator with US Forest Service said.
The clues for investigators include the burn patterns on brush, debris and rocks which can be significant in determining how the fire had moved and trace it back to its origin point.
US President Donald Trump recently visited the Los Angeles region which has been severely affected by the fire. Trump issued an executive order on Sunday directing the federal government to override the state of California’s water-management practices if they are found to be ineffective.-Agencies
