Kathmandu, Nov. 20: India has handed over a 70-metre modular bridge along with specialized launching tools to Nepal, reinforcing support for the country's post-disaster reconstruction efforts following the heavy rains that struck eastern Nepal in October 2025.
In a ceremony held in Hetauda on Thursday, the Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, presented the complete bridge set to the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising.
According to the Indian Embassy, the Government of India has committed to providing a total of ten 70-metre and higher-span bailey bridges, worth over Rs 73 crore, on a grant basis. These bridges were requested by Nepal after the recent weather-induced destruction that damaged connectivity in several districts.
The bridge handed over on Thursday will be dispatched immediately to Ramechhap, where road links remain disrupted due to the October downpours, according to the embassy.
India had also supplied ten prefabricated steel bridges worth Rs 41 crore last year in response to the September 2024 floods and landslides. Of those, four have already been installed, the embassy noted.
Speaking at the event, the Indian Ambassador Srivastava, stated that the supply of the modular bridges and the launching tools are a powerful testament to the enduring bonds of friendship that define the India-Nepal relationship and a reaffirmation of Government of India's policy of extending all possible support for Nepal's infrastructure development and post-disaster reconstruction efforts.
During the event Minister Ghising, expressed gratitude for India's continued assistance, noting that the quick-to-assemble bridges and the availability of launching equipment are vital for expediting emergency reconstruction. He assured that the newly received bridge would be operationalized without delay.
Government of India remains committed to continue supporting the people and Government of Nepal in reconstruction and disaster mitigation efforts, the embassy added.
