Kathmandu, Aug. 21: Nepali Congress leader and member of House of Representatives Pradip Giri died while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur today. He was 74. Giri died at around 9:30pm.
A native of Siraha district, Giri had represented Siraha 1 constituency in the lower House.
NC whip in the HoR Min Bahadur Bishwakarma issued a press release condoling Giri's death. According to him, Giri's body will be kept at Mediciti Hospital tomorrow frommorrow from 9:00am to 11:00am for homage to the departed soul. His body will then be kept at the party headquarters from 11:30am to 2:00pm following which his body will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat.
Giri, who was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, had under-gone treatment in India before returning to Nepal. He was admitted to Mediciti Hospital one month ago after he developed pneumonia complications that arose from his cancer treatment.
Giri, a socialist and a Gandhian thinker, was associated with the NC from his student days. Giri as an orator, had earned praise from both sides of the aisle for his witty arguments and courage to criticise his own party leadership.
