Kathmandu, May 8: People across the country are marking Mata Tirtha Aunsi or Mother’s Day on Wednesday. On the day of Mata Tirtha Ausi, children offer sweets, fruits, ornaments, clothes and gifts to their mothers to show their love, devotion and reverence toward the one who brought them to this world.
Married women visit their mothers’ homes to offer various gifts and seek blessings. Children of deceased mothers visit Mata Tirtha Kunda in Chandragiri Municipality, Kathmandu, and pray for the eternal peace of their mother’s soul.
Mata Tirtha Conservation and Development Committee has completed all preparations to hold a fair at Mata Tirtha Kunda on the day of Mata Tirtha Aunsi. Several sub-committees have been formed to organise the fair, as hundreds of devotees would visit Mata Tirtha on Wednesday to perform Shraddha there.
Children of the deceased mother believe that visiting the Mata Tirtha Kund will free them from the debt owed to their mother.
