Federal Education Act soon: Minister Sharma

08/04/2023

Kathmandu, Aug. 4: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has said preparations were underway to bring the Federal Education Act replacing the Education Act-2028 as soon as possible.

Addressing 'SEE (2079) Graduates Felicitating Program-2080' organized by the Kathmandu district chapter of Private and Boarding Schools' Organisation Nepal (PABSON), Minister Sharma mentioned that the federal education act is now in the process of being registered in parliament after getting endorsement from the Cabinet.

Also the spokesperson for the government, Sharma shared, "It is necessary to change the Education Act, 2028 as there was a situation to teach the students in 2080BS based on the Education Act, 2028 BS. So, a new education act is going to be introduced soon."

The Constitution of Nepal has established education and health as the fundamental rights, she said. "We are saying that socialism is our goal. It means that education and health should be guaranteed as fundamental rights. Both should be free," the Communications Minister remarked.

She further said the Constitution has made a provision for free education up to Grade 12. "The contribution of the private sector is important in itself, even more than that there was a situation that only the community schools were not able to take the responsibility for teaching-learning activities of all students. In this aspect the private schools have made a significant contribution," she mentioned.

Minister Sharma said although the country has come to the present situation after going through many political changes, it seems that love for the country, culture and identity is gradually decreasing, stressing the need for making higher education more qualitative to stop the students’ from going abroad to pursue higher education.

Similarly, PABSON Chairperson Prem Kumar Rai laid emphasis on equal opportunity for all students studying in community and institutional schools in providing skill-oriented education.

Students and member schools securing best results in SEE were honored on the occasion.
