Brussels, July 17: A fire on the mainstage of Tomorrowland festival in Belgium’s Antwerp has completely destroyed the venue, just a day before the event where thousands of people were bound to gather for the electronic dance music (edm) as the organisers said that there were no injuries reported in the incident.

Though organisers for the electronic dance music festival have said that they would still go ahead with the event over the next two weekends. Videos and photos posted on social media showed a thick plume of smoke engulfing the stage and the event arean while spreading to nearby woodland.

Organisers of the event, in a post on their website said “Due to a serious incident and fire on the Tomorrowland Mainstage, our beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged. We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident.” The statement added that the focus of the organising team was now on “finding solutions” for the music festival.

Among the artists scheduled to perform in the music festival include David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Swedish House Mafia and Charlotte De Witte, reported BBC.

According to an employee who was working on the affected site, the fire turned the arena of the music festival into “an apocalyptic scene”. The employee added “We were just putting the finishing touches on it. One more day and it will be finished. Four weeks of work… gone in half an hour,” as per Het Nieuwsblad newspaper.

Firefighters, emergency responders have been working throughout to contain the fire which has spread to nearby homes and forest. A few residents have also been reportedly evacuated after the fire engulfed the Tomorrowland festival stage.

The Tomorrowland music festival in Belgium was founded by two Belgian brothers 20 years ago and it has since become an internationally recognised brand. It is an electronic dance music (EDM) festival, which is supposed to be held in the town of Boom, south of Antwerp and about 400,000 people are expected to attend the event over the span of two weekends.

For many EDM fans, the Tomorrowland festival has become the ultimate music fest which attracts a large international audience. The Tomorrowland music fest started with its first edition in 2005. The popularity of Tomorrowland festival has raged to a level where the spinoff versions of the festival have sprung up in the French Alps (Tomorrowland Winter) and Brazil (Tomorrowland Brazil).-Agencies
