Donald Trump brings back the ‘Diet Coke button’, redecorates Oval Office

01/21/2025

Washington, Jan. 21: Donald Trump has restored the Oval Office to his signature style, complete with the return of the famous Diet Coke button, after he took oath as the 47th President of the United States on Monday. The discreet red button, placed in a wooden box on the President’s desk, allows Trump to summon his favourite beverage with the push of a finger.

“Everyone does get a little nervous when I press that button,” Trump once quipped to the Financial Times in 2017.

The button had been removed in 2021 during Joe Biden’s presidency but was spotted again during Trump’s inauguration ceremonys on Monday, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Trump, who has expressed his love for American fast food like McDonald’s and KFC, also toasted Vice-President JD Vance with Diet Coke at his inauguration ceremony.

As is tradition, the Oval Office has been redecorated to reflect the preferences of the incoming president. Trump’s decor includes portraits of historical figures such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, and Thomas Jefferson. The painting of Washington now presides over the fireplace, a centrepiece of the office’s new look.

A bust of Winston Churchill, which Trump prominently displayed during his first term, has also returned to its place near the fireplace. The bust of Martin Luther King Jr., featured during Biden’s tenure, also remains in the Oval Office.

Trump has also swapped out Biden’s blue rug for a neutral-coloured one that he used during his last term. The gold curtains, chosen by Trump in 2017 and later retained by Biden, remain in place. Artist Frederic Remington’s ‘The Bronco Buster’ sculpture has also returned, sitting beneath the portrait of Andrew Jackson.
