Kathmandu, May 28: Contracts have been signed between contractors and the Central Project Implementation Unit (Education) under the Ministry of Education and Sports for the construction of 14 school buildings in eight districts of Nepal with grant assistance from the Government of India.

According to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, school buildings will be built in Gorkha, Nuwakot, Dhading, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Kavrepalanchok, Ramechhap and Sindhupalchok districts. The projects will be implemented under India’s post-earthquake reconstruction assistance program with a grant assistance of Rs 560.2 million.

The Counsellor of the Development Partnership and Reconstruction Wing of the Embassy of India, the project director of the Central Project Implementation Unit, officials from the unit, and representatives of the contractors were present on the occasion.

According to the embassy, the schools will be constructed as per the Government of Nepal’s earthquake-resilient reconstruction standards. The infrastructure will include academic buildings, furnished classrooms and separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls.

Seventy school buildings in eight districts and the Central Library of Tribhuvan University, built under the program, was handed over to the Government of Nepal in January 2024, the embassy said in the statement.
