NC and UML win in two local units each, Maoist Center in one so far of Sudurpaschim Province

Kailali, May 15: The counting of votes has concluded in five of the 88 local bodies of Sudurpaschim Province so far. Of the five local bodies, Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML emerged victorious in two local units each, while the CPN (Maoist Center) won in one local unit. 

In Dadeldhura Rural Municipality, also the home village of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC candidate for the post of chairman Indra Karki emerged victorious with 3,184 votes, while Gyanu Sethi was elected as the vice-chairperson with 3,013 votes. 

Karki’s nearest rival Surendra Bahadur Mali from the Nepali Congress (BP) received 1,605 votes, while Sethi’s nearest rival Indra Bahadur Mahara of CPN-UML received 1,703 votes. 

NC also secured victory in Badikedar Rural Municipality of Doti. NC candidate  for chairman Bhairav Bahadur Saud was elected with 2,343 votes while vice-chairperson candidate  Dammri Kumari Bista  was elected with 2,407 votes. 

Saud’s nearest rival Chakra Bahadur Gharti Magar of UML received 1,684 votes while Bista’s nearest rival Sapana Sidari of UML received 2,276 votes. 

Similarly UML’s candidate Prakash Rokaya has been elected as the chairman of Thalara Rural Municipality of Bajhang with 2,774 votes, while his nearest rival Kulraj Joshi from the independent cluster received 2,113 votes. 

In the post of vice-chairperson, candidate from the ruling coalition Ram Khati, also a member of NC, was elected with 3,150 votes, while her nearest rival Mira Devi Rawal of UML received 2,587 votes. 

Likewise, UML’s candidate Man Bahadur Bohara was elected as the chairman of Saipal Rural Municipality of Bhajang with 675 votes, while his nearest rival Ujjwal Bohara from the coalition and a member of NC received 613 votes. 

In the post of vice-chairperson, UML candidate Dolma Tamang was elected with 675 votes, while her nearest rival Batu Bohara of NC received 619 votes. 

In Apihimal Rural Municipality, candidates from the ruling coalition Bhagat Singh Tekare (Bohara), also a member of CPN (Maoist Center) and vice-chairperson candidate Devki Devi Bohara from NC were elected.   Thekare received 2,304 votes while his nearest rival Dharmanand Manyal of UML received 1,385 votes. Similarly, Bohara received 2,027 votes while her nearest rival Urmila Bohara from UML received 1,391 votes.
