NC postpones Mahasamiti meeting yet again

11/07/2023

Kathmandu, Nov. 7: The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to reschedule the Mahasamiti meeting in light of the recent earthquake in western Nepal.

The Mahasamiti meeting, initially scheduled for December 15 to December 18, will now be held after December 18. A Work Performance Committee meeting of the party, which was scheduled for October 22, was postponed due to the earthquake. Prior to that, the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) had set the date from November 29 to December 1.

According to members of the Work Performance Committee, the decision to postpone the Mahasamiti meeting was made to allow more time for the selection of Mahasamiti representatives. Additionally, a CWC meeting needed to be convened in between. "This is the reason why the Mahasamiti meeting has been postponed for a few days. In some places, there was insufficient time to select the Mahasamiti representatives," said a member of the Work Performance Committee.

Officials stated that a few days are needed to print the report after the CWC approves it for submission to the Mahasamiti meeting. "After the Central Committee meeting, there will be a short gap before the Mahasamiti meeting," they said.

According to the Election Committee of the party, Mahasamiti members from 143 constituencies have been selected, including 11 Mahasamiti members from the federal constituencies. The 25 members of NC's Mahasamiti will comprise representatives from the Federal Constituencies, Central Members, Members of the Previous Working Committee, sister and well-wisher organizations, and chairpersons appointed by the Public Relations Committee, among others.
